Part 4 · Efforts, Notes and the Notebook
Each day you work on a habit, you log effort on it: click the circle beside it, or right-click › Log Effort. That’s what marks it done for today. Unlog Effort takes it back.
Notes are where a habit keeps its record: what you got done, what you worked out, what to pick up next time.
Notes in the habit’s form
Section titled “Notes in the habit’s form”A Notes section shows the newest note, with the total beside the heading.
- Click the note to edit it.
- Right-click it for “Edit Note…”, “Copy Note Deep Link”, or Delete.
- Add Note writes another one.
- All Notes opens the full list for that habit, grouped by day. Right-clicking a habit and choosing Notes… opens the same list.
A note deep link is an excellence:// address for one note. Paste it anywhere you
keep references — another app, a document — and opening it brings up that note’s editor
in Excellence. Habits have the same thing, under “Copy Habit Deep Link”.
A note on today’s effort
Section titled “A note on today’s effort”A note can belong to one day’s effort rather than to the habit in general.
That logs today’s effort and pins the note to it. If you’d already logged effort, the same item reads Add Note to Today’s Effort….
Efforts… on the same menu lists every day you logged effort, with Add Effort for a day you forgot. Right-click a day to edit it, add a note to it, or delete it.
The Notebook
Section titled “The Notebook”Notebook in the sidebar collects every note into one timeline, day by day. It appears once you’ve written your first note.
Each day has an Effort section listing what you worked on, with any note written on that effort just beneath it. Other notes from that day sit above. Progress toward a goal (Part 7) shows under its effort too, or under Progress on a day without one. So the Notebook reads as a record of what you actually did, not just what you planned.
Right-click a note to go to its habit, copy its deep link, or delete it. Right-click an effort to add a note to it.
